Who is Andy Coughlin?

Andy is a strong communicator, and great on his feet. He has a broad business background and a proven ability to win business.  He loves working with people and helping them perform as well as possible, be it in the boardroom, on the rugby field, or in the jungles of Belize.

He coaches individuals, helping them through crucial decisions such as career changes. Andy delivers events such as the highly energetic and inspirational Plunge and Splash, organised by the excellent Working Knowledge Group as part of their ‘Ride the wave’ programme.

Background and experience

Andy draws on over 20 years’ experience of sales, management and board level responsibility in the business to business (b2b) environment.

A graduate of the internationally renowned IBM sales school, and with business development experience at IBM and Compaq, he brings a wealth of practical experience of the corporate sector.

Andy also has 12 years’ experience running small businesses. He has successfully developed business with over 40 major blue chips and other organisations including:

  • All the major High Street banks
  • International technology companies  including Microsoft and Sage
  • Major utilities including British Gas, Thames Water, Npower and BT
  • Sports clubs including Harlequins, Everton FC and Newcastle Falcons
  • Government Departments

Andy is also an NLP Practitioner having qualified under Ian McDermott’s guidance at world-leading NLP trainer ITS. He was also a Deputy Expedition Leader with Raleigh International, working in Zimbabwe and Central America.

Non-exec Director

Andy is a non-executive Director of The Small Business Company (UK) Ltd.

In June 2017 he was also appointed non-executive Chairman of Redsquid Communications Ltd.

Getting personal

Andy loves spending time outdoors, especially with his wife and young family. He coaches at Chobham Rugby Club, plays hockey for Richmond and is a keen skier and mountain climber. He plays the guitar, piano and loves the blues.

He describes his most memorable professional achievement as being the time he negotiated the use of a tractor off Belizian Prime Minister Manuel Esquivel to transport building materials into the jungle.
